Palm Nuts 250g
Palm Nuts 250g
Palm nuts are the natural food of African Grey parrots. It is actually the yellow flesh around the nut that is important although larger parrots such as macaws can crack the nut as well.
Palm nuts are good for all parrots particularly breeding birds. As some birds tend to be fussy eaters it is best to start with just a kilo to try them out.
On arrival put the palm nuts into a deep freeze. They should be thawed over night and washed before use. Feed a pair of African Greys 4 nuts per day.
African Greys can be very fussy feeders indeed and you do have to be
careful when introducing a new diet. To begin with you can try
several different ways, if you're bird is extremely tame then try
just giving them a palm nut from your fingers. Many pet parrots will
be happy to try anything and this may work. If you place the palm
nut in their food dish, keep an eye on your parrots and see what he
does with this new food. Often once they pick it up in their beak
and bite into it they will then begin to eat it. Palm nuts being a
natural food of African grey parrots means it is extremely good for
them and worth persevering if they do not eat this food to start
with. You can also try not feeding the parrot first thing in the
morning with any food and just placing a palm nut in their food dish,
once hungry they are much more likely to try something new. Palm
nuts cannot be kept unfrozen in your parrots cage for more than two
days. After two days it is best to throw away and try again with a
new palm nut
